Shortly before my wife suddenly became physically disabled we were able to take a trip  to Hawaii for our 30th wedding anniversary , it wasn't just a vacation; it was a revelation. As we relished the delightful Hawaiian Shave Ice, an idea began to crystallize. Why not bring this joy back home? This wasn't just a business venture; it was a dream to involve our entire family. .Today, my  adult children play a pivotal role in Big Kahuna Hawaiian Shave Ice. It's more than just a family business; it's our legacy. A legacy we aim to pass down through generations, spreading happiness, one shave ice at a time.

Mike, the cornerstone of our family, wears many hats but perhaps the one that stands out the most is his role as a pastor. He's not just any pastor; he's one of the pioneering founders of Rise Community Church. For over 20 years, Mike has poured his heart into serving the community, impacting countless lives through his ministry and the various nonprofit initiatives we've been blessed to be a part of.

Our family roots in Florida stretch deeper than the sun-kissed shores and the whispering palms. The Boyd name is a testament to decades of trust, a pillar of support for many in South Florida. Long before our vibrant journey with Big Kahuna Hawaiian Shave Ice began, Mike's grandparents, Don & Kathy,  pioneered a legacy with the establishment of Boyd's Family Funeral Homes in 1955. This legacy was passionately upheld by Mike’s parents, Linda & Larry, his Uncle Pat, and various family members throughout the years. While the realm of funeral services might seem worlds apart from the tropical delights of shave ice, the underlying ethos remains unchanged: an unwavering commitment to community and service. As we've transitioned from the solemn corridors of Boyd's to the lively vibes of our shave ice venture, that legacy of care and community engagement remains the guiding star in all we undertake.
